What the family plan costs

According to the prices published by the trade press in February 2026, the Amazon Music Unlimited family plan costs €22.99 a month and the individual plan €12.99. Confirm the current fees on the offer page before signing up.

Over a year, twelve monthly payments of the family plan come to €275.88. The individual plan, €155.88.

From how many people it pays off

From two. Two individual plans cost €25.98 a month; the family plan, €22.99. The saving is €2.99 a month, €35.88 a year. With each person who joins, the difference grows.

The table at the top is our own calculation: it divides the family fee by the number of people and compares it with each paying for an individual plan.

What it includes for each member

  • Their own account, with their playlists and history.
  • Recommendations based on what each one listens to.
  • On-demand music with no adverts.
  • Downloads for listening offline.
  • Use at the same time as the others, each on their own device.

That is the difference from sharing a single individual account: here nobody cuts off anybody's music or messes up their playlists.

Who can be a member

The plan is designed for the members of a family. Amazon sets the specific terms, such as the maximum number of accounts or the country of residence, on the offer page. Read them before inviting anyone.

How the payment is organised

One person pays, the account holder. If you split the cost, agree how from the start.

  1. The account holder takes out the plan and invites the rest.
  2. The fee is divided between the members.
  3. Each one pays their share in advance, ideally by quarter.
  4. A note is kept of who has paid.
  5. If someone leaves, it is recalculated that same month.

Collecting by quarter avoids twelve reminders a year. Between four people, a quarter comes to €17.24 a head.

What each person pays per year

PeoplePer person per yearCompared with an individual plan
2€137.94€17.94 less
3€91.96€63.92 less
4€68.97€86.91 less
6€45.98€109.90 less

When it does not pay off

  • When only one person listens to music every day.
  • When the music included with Prime is enough for the others.
  • When two of the members already pay for another service and do not plan to leave it.
  • When nobody wants to be in charge of collecting.

The family plan only saves money if it replaces several payments. If it is added to the ones you already have, it is one more expense.

Individual, family or the Prime music

Music Unlimited individual€12.99 a monthOne person who listens every day
Music Unlimited family€22.99 a monthTwo or more people who listen every day

The differences between the included music and the paid one are in Amazon Music Prime or Music Unlimited.

How to try it before paying

Amazon Music Unlimited has a 30-day free trial. The sensible approach is for one person to try the individual plan first. If they like it and others at home are interested, you move to the family plan. The offer page says which trial applies to each plan.

During the month, let each person check their own things: that their artists are there, that downloads work and that the app runs well on their phone. The guide for that month is Amazon Music Unlimited: what it offers and who it suits.

For trips and the car

With the family plan, each person downloads their music to their own phone. On a long journey nobody depends on coverage or on the driver's taste. How to prepare it is in offline music for travel.

What happens if someone leaves the plan

The person who leaves loses access to Music Unlimited and to their downloads. If they are a Prime member, they keep the included music. Those who stay each pay a little more: between three, the fee goes from €5.75 to €7.66 per person if one of four leaves.

Common mistakes

  • Taking out the family plan for one person.
  • Sharing an individual account instead of moving to the family plan.
  • Not agreeing how the payment is split.
  • Keeping another music service at the same time.
  • Forgetting that it renews every month.

How to move from the individual plan to the family plan

  1. Go into Amazon Music settings with the account that will be the holder.
  2. Find the option to change plan and choose family.
  3. Confirm the new amount and the date of the change.
  4. Invite each member from the plan's management page.
  5. Each guest accepts with their own Amazon account.

Menu names may vary. What matters is that the change is made by the person who pays and that each member signs in with their own account, not the holder's.

The cost per hour, between several

If each member listens for an hour a day, about 30 a month, this is what each hour of music costs.

PlanPer person per monthPer hour of music
Individual€12.99€0.43
Family between 2€11.50€0.38
Family between 4€5.75€0.19
Family between 6€3.83€0.13

Our own calculation. The method, for any subscription, is in what each use costs.

If not everyone listens the same amount

Splitting equally is the simplest way, but not the only one. In a family with two adults and two teenagers, the adults usually pay. Between friends or flatmates, equal shares paid in advance are better.

What does not work is working out the split according to how much each person listens. Nobody wants to audit their brother's hours of music.

At home, with speakers

With several accounts in the same home, it helps to know which account is linked to each Alexa speaker. Music you ask for by voice will play on that device's account and affect its recommendations. If a speaker is for shared use, link it to the account of whoever minds least about mixing tastes.

For a couple

This is the most common case and the tightest. Between two, the family plan saves €2.99 a month compared with two individual plans. It is not much money, but it also gives you four spare places in case someone in the family joins.

Checks before signing up

  • How many of you will use it every day? If it is one, it does not pay.
  • Does anyone already pay for another service? Let them decide which to drop.
  • Who will be the holder and how will you pay them?
  • Have you read the terms on who can be a member?
  • Have you tried the individual plan first?

What to review after three months

After a quarter, look at who really uses it. If only two of four members listen, you still save compared with two individual plans, so the plan stays. If only one listens, go back to individual: €12.99 a month instead of €22.99.

Put the review in the calendar on the day you sign up. It is the only way it will happen.

An example with numbers: a family of four

Two adults and two teenage children listen to music every day. These are their three options.

OptionPer monthPer year
Four individual plans€51.96€623.52
One family plan€22.99€275.88
One individual plan and Music Prime for the rest€12.99€155.88

The family plan saves them €347.64 a year compared with four individual plans. The third option is cheaper still, but it only works if the music included with Prime is enough for three of the four.

If there are young children

A child who listens to songs for a while each day does not need their own account on a paid plan. The music included with Prime usually covers it. Keep the family plan's places for those who choose their own music and download it.

The cheapest alternative

In many homes, the combination that works best is not the family plan. It is an individual plan for whoever listens most and the Prime music for the others. It costs €12.99 a month instead of €22.99. Try it for a month before making the jump.

In short

  1. Family plan: €22.99 a month.
  2. It pays off from two people.
  3. Between six: €3.83 per person.
  4. Each member has their own account and playlists.
  5. Agree how to split the payment before you start.
