How to save on Amazon.es: 10 habits that work
In short
Habits save more than deals do: save items to a list and wait, group orders so you do not pay delivery, compare the seller and the price per unit, check the second-hand section and use free trials only when you will get the most from them.

Before you buy
1. Save it to your wish list and wait 48 hours
Most purchases we regret are made on the spot. Saving the product to a list and coming back two days later removes a good share of them with no effort. We explain it in the 48-hour rule.
2. Read the whole product page
Look at who sells it, who ships it, when it arrives and what the return window is. Two offers for the same product can differ on all of these. There is a guide in how to read a product page.
3. Compare the price per unit
With multipacks and large formats, the total price misleads. Divide by units, litres or kilos. The large format is not always the cheapest.
At checkout
4. Group orders so you do not pay delivery
Without Prime, delivery is free above a minimum order value that Amazon shows at checkout. If you are just short, wait until you need something else instead of adding an item you did not want.
5. Choose a pickup point if you will not be home
Amazon Hub lockers and counters avoid failed deliveries and waiting in. They do not save money directly, but they do prevent returns of parcels you never collected.
6. Check Amazon Segunda Mano
This is the section for returned or open-box products, inspected and sold at a discount. Each listing describes the condition. It works well for electronics, small appliances and books.
For repeat purchases
7. Use Subscribe & Save for what you always buy
For consumables such as detergent, nappies or coffee, scheduled delivery applies a discount. It only makes sense for products you buy anyway, and you can cancel or skip a delivery.
8. Keep big purchases for the sales events
Prime Day and Black Friday bring the largest discounts of the year. Prepare your list beforehand and buy only what was already on it: how to prepare without overbuying.
For subscriptions
9. Try before you pay, with a date
Prime, Audible, Kindle Unlimited and Music Unlimited all have a free trial. Use them one at a time and note the last day. The free trial calculator gives you the dates.
10. If you qualify for Prime Student, take it
Students and people aged 18 to 24 pay half for the same benefits, with a 90-day trial. See the requirements in the Prime Student guide.
What does not save money
- Buying something because it is discounted. Forty per cent off something you did not need is sixty per cent spent.
- Adding filler to reach free delivery.
- Keeping a subscription you do not use because it is cheap.
