When to create and share your wedding registry: a complete timeline
In short
Create the registry about four months before the wedding, share it three months before along with the invitations, review it three weeks before and send your thank-you notes during the month after the celebration. If guests have to travel, bring everything forward by a month.

Why the timeline matters
A wedding registry has a life cycle of about five months. If it is created late, the most organised guests will already have chosen a gift on their own. If it is shared too early, it gets forgotten. And if it is not reviewed, anyone buying in the last week finds only the most expensive gifts.
The timeline we suggest rests on a simple idea: the registry has to be ready before anyone needs it, and up to date when the last people look at it.
Four months before: create the registry
Choosing gifts takes longer than it seems, especially when two of you are deciding. Set aside two afternoons. The first, to walk through the house room by room and note what is missing, what is old and what you would like to upgrade. The second, to find each thing, compare and add it.
Keep the registry private while you prepare it. That way you can add and remove things without anyone seeing a half-finished version. On the Amazon.es wedding registry you choose the visibility when you create it and can change it later.
- Decide the number of gifts with the rule of one per invitation.
- Split the prices: half under €50.
- Check the delivery address and who will be there to receive parcels.
- Give your partner edit permission so you can both work on the same registry.
Three months before: share it
The natural moment is when the invitations go out, because that is when guests start thinking about a gift. The registry is not printed on the invitation: it goes on the wedding website, or is sent by message to whoever asks. Guests who live far away tend to buy early, sometimes the very day they receive the invitation, and it helps if they find the registry complete.
Before sharing it, open the link from another device without signing in. Check that it shows what you want it to show: names, date and gifts.
Between sharing and the wedding: two reviews
The first review, after two weeks, shows you the pace. If the affordable gifts are flying, add more at the same price. The second, three weeks before the wedding, is the most important: it is when the undecided buy. If only expensive gifts are left, add five or six under €50.
Use that final review to check the delivery address. If you will be away in the days before, or travelling afterwards, think about who can collect parcels or change the address temporarily.
The week of the wedding
Do not touch the registry. Some guests buy the day before, and even on the day itself. The only useful thing you can do is keep the link to hand in case someone asks for it at the last minute, and leave a relative in charge of answering those questions so they do not reach you.
After the wedding
Leave the registry open for a few weeks. Some gifts arrive late and some guests prefer to give after the celebration. Download the thank-you list, which records the gifts received, and split the messages between the two of you.
According to information published in March 2026, after the wedding Amazon.es offers a discount to buy whatever was left unpurchased. The percentage and the terms can change, so check them on your registry page before counting on it.
What to do if you are running late
If fewer than two months remain, do not aim for the perfect registry. List twenty or thirty gifts well spread by price and share it by message that same week. A short registry on time is more useful than a complete one that arrives after half the guests have decided.
If less than a month remains, the registry still makes sense for three groups: late buyers, people who cannot attend and those who want to give afterwards. Ten or fifteen gifts are enough.
If the wedding is far away or midweek
When guests have to travel, book time off or reserve accommodation, the whole timeline moves a month earlier. Create the registry five months before and share it with the save-the-date, even before the formal invitation. People already spending on travel especially appreciate finding affordable gifts, so for these weddings raise the share of gifts under €50 to two thirds of the registry.
The timeline with real dates
For a wedding on 12 June, the dates look like this: create the registry around 12 February, share it around 14 March, do the final review on 22 May and finish the thank-you notes before 12 July. The calculator in the guide gives these dates for any day you choose.
Delivery times count too
Guests need time to decide, and gifts need time to arrive. The delivery date for each product is shown on its page and depends on who ships it and on your address. Bulky items, such as patio furniture or large appliances, can take longer than the rest.
That is why the three-week review is not a whim: a gift added five days before the wedding may not arrive in time, and whoever buys it will be disappointed. If you add something at the last minute, make it small and quick to deliver.
Couples who live in another city or country
If the wedding is held far from where you live, decide early where the gifts should go. The most convenient option is usually your normal address, not one in the city of the wedding: nobody wants to carry thirty parcels on the journey home. If you live outside Spain and the registry is on Amazon.es, check before sharing it that the products you chose can be shipped to your address, or use the address of a relative who can store them.
Let guests know the gift will not travel to the celebration, so nobody expects to see you open it that day.
Who does what: sharing out the tasks
The registry works better when each task has an owner. A common split: one of you adds and reviews the gifts, and the other shares the link and answers questions from their side of the family. A parent or sibling on each side acts as spokesperson for older guests, who prefer to ask by phone.
And someone you trust keeps the keys to collect parcels if you are away. Agreeing this at the start stops every guest's question landing on the same person in the week of the wedding.
The last month, week by week
- Four weeks before: check that every guest has received the link or knows where to find it.
- Three weeks before: final review. Add affordable gifts and remove whatever you no longer want.
- Two weeks before: confirm the delivery address for the days when you will be busy or away.
- Final week: change nothing. Leave the link with your spokespeople.
- The week after the wedding: download the thank-you list and start with those who gave first.
How it fits with the rest of the planning
The registry competes for your attention with the reception, the outfits and the music, and it nearly always loses. So tie it to tasks already in your calendar. Create it the same week you close the guest list, because you need that number to work out the gifts.
Share it the day you send the invitations. And do the final review when you confirm numbers with the venue, which is usually three weeks before. That way it does not depend on you remembering.
If the wedding date changes
A postponement does not mean starting again. Update the date on the registry so guests see the right one, and review the gifts: what you chose a year ago may no longer be available or may no longer interest you. If some guests have already bought, thank them when the gift arrives, without waiting for the new date. And share the link again with the new announcement, because many people will have lost it.
Common timeline mistakes
- Creating the registry the same day the invitations go out, in a hurry and without reviewing it.
- Sharing it before you have the final delivery address.
- Closing the registry on the wedding day, when some people still want to give.
- Leaving the thank-you notes until after the honeymoon with no deadline.
- Forgetting to update the registry when the date or the delivery address changes.
Frequently asked questions about the wedding registry timeline
How far ahead should we create the wedding registry?
About four months before, so you can share it three months before with the invitations.
When do you share a wedding registry?
When the invitations go out, about three months before, through the wedding website or by message.
How long do we have to send thank-you notes?
Ideally within the month after the wedding.
Should we close the registry after the wedding?
It is best to leave it open for a few weeks, because some guests give after the celebration.
What if we create the registry late?
It is still useful. Twenty or thirty gifts well spread by price, shared that same week, cover those who have not yet decided.
How long is the full life cycle of a wedding registry?
About five months: you create it four months before, share it three months before, review it three weeks before and send thank-yous during the month after.
When should a wedding registry be reviewed?
Twice: a fortnight after sharing it and three weeks before the wedding, which is when the undecided buy.
What do you do in the final review of the registry?
Add five or six gifts under €50 for late buyers, remove what you no longer want and check the delivery address.
Can we change the registry in the week of the wedding?
Better not to touch it. Some guests buy the day before or on the day itself, and they should find it stable.
What if there are less than two months to go and we have no registry?
List twenty or thirty gifts well spread by price and share the registry by message that same week.
Is it worth creating a registry with less than a month to go?
Yes, for late buyers, for those who cannot attend and for those who give afterwards. Ten or fifteen gifts are enough.
How does the timeline change if guests have to travel?
Everything moves forward a month: create the registry five months before and share it with the save-the-date. It is worth raising gifts under €50 to two thirds of the list.
Which dates apply to a wedding on 12 June?
Create the registry around 12 February, share it around 14 March, final review on 22 May and thank-yous before 12 July.
Should the registry be kept private while we prepare it?
Yes. That way you can add and remove without anyone seeing a half-finished version. On the Amazon.es Wedding Registry you choose visibility when creating it and can change it.
Where should gifts be delivered if the wedding is in another city?
To your usual address, not to the wedding city, so that you do not carry the parcels on the journey home.
What happens to the registry if the wedding is postponed?
You do not have to redo it. Update the date, check that the gifts are still available and share the link again with the new announcement.
Why not add gifts at the last minute?
Because a gift added five days before may not arrive in time. If you add something late, make it small and with fast delivery.
Who should answer guests' questions about the registry?
It is best shared out: one of you manages the gifts, the other shares the link, and a relative on each side looks after older guests.
Which wedding tasks should the registry be tied to?
Create it when you close the guest list, share it the day you send the invitations and do the final review when you confirm numbers with the venue.
How do we check the registry before sending it to guests?
By opening the link on another device without signing in, to see names, date and gifts exactly as they will.
